I haven't seen this distinction made before so posting it here. I did some testing and realized that Tinder has two types of shadowbans. The hard shadowban is where you just don't get any matches at all. If you turn on boost, it won't show you the micro avatars of people who saw your boost, because your profile is invisible. The soft shadowban is a bit different. If you delete your subpar profile and make a new improved one too many times, unknown to you, your swipe history will be restored, so most ladies won't see you if you exhausted your area previously. Most people would imagine with a soft shadowban their matches are being reduced when in fact it's the pool of ladies.

Edit: this is wrong, see comments I changed my profile from being mostly in Korean to English. A few days later, the algorithm is largely showing me women who are many thousands of miles away on passport. Also, the matches I see on platinum are mostly from passport. For anyone playing Tinder overseas this is something to keep in mind. Your profile text does have an impact beyond the ladies reading it. Right now, I'm trying to work around this without having to use 'recently active' which discards the algorithm altogether.
