In my experience it's best to match their rythm. If they take hours to respond then you should do the same. If they're responding fast then it might be a good time for you to start texting them more frequently and go for a soft close.

Anyway, I wear feather earrings and have long hair. No one thinks I'm gay though. I think you can wear feminine stuff and dye your hair if you want to but you do have to compensate with some masculine traits as well.

For example I have a lot of tattoos (including a sleeve) and I wear leather jackets so it's more acceptable because it's more of a rockstar/celebrity/peacock type of look.

I think your style should reflect your personality so I would find a way to make your style a bit more masculine rather than trying to look like someone else.
