For context I don't know her but from the looks of her page we went to the same school and have a few mutual friends.
Me: "hey, I like your style 👌"
Her: "aw thanks I appreciate that 👍"

Any suggestions on how to respond?

Don't get stuck on the opener, it is there to get a convo rolling.
Go with '' How was/is your chill/cheeky/thirsty/funny etc. friday ( or wahtever day it is) going.

Just start a conversation to build comfort and some commonality. You went to the same school. Ask her "You went to insert school name?" and get a conversation rolling then you can switch topics.
